I'm not one for resolutions, but this year I decided that one of my goals would be to read more books. Last year I think I read a total of two, maybe three books. Since the beginning of this year I have finished one full book, The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle, which I believe I completed in January (it was a Christmas gift).

I love to read and am a voracious bookworm but I've just gotten lazy. I do plenty of reading for my job and I read the news online for several hours a day but recreational reading has been missing from my life for a while. And so, in an effort to make reading for enjoyment a priority again, I am going to challenge myself this summer to read 10 books in two months (June & July). This challenge is an ambitious one but I think with the right pacing and several dedicated reading weekends it can be done.

I'm not going to pre-select the books; instead, I will choose them as I go along. I've just begun reading Book #1 in my reading challenge, The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

CHALLENGE: Read 10 books in two months (June & July)
DEADLINE: August 1st, 2013
BOOK #1: The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (read my review of this book here)

I invite you to create your own reading challenge if you'd like. Pick a book (or quantity of books) and a deadline and then just go for it! Maybe your goal is to read one book per month, or you could finish reading that book you started long ago but never completed. In any case, I hope that you have been inspired to pick up a good book today. Happy reading!
